What should people with old browsers do?

yes, with linux you can run modern software on old and crappy hardware.

I don't get the issue, I can still play with the lichess app on my old phone.

Even Microsoft stopped developing their own browser because they couldn't get it to support the Internet. I'm using Edge dev. version right now: A chromium browser.

@polylogarithmique If you're not sure whether your hardware can support linux and whether it'll run Lichess ok, try creating a bootable USB with Ubuntu on and test it out (without actually installing it):

I agree with Shatkovski, i use an old i pad and its works perfect but i can play chess anymore. Old was fine no reason to drop us...

if ur laptop can run windows 10 u can still download the windows 10 handicap version. May have to go in a disable some options but still it's free version. It's like ur getting a second chance to get it for free like you did a long time ago.

I guess chess.com is the only option :(

Lichess supporting tablets, browsers, and operating systems that vendors have dropped support for is an unreasonable and unrealistic expectation.

You know you're running stuff that is very much outdated and not supported. You're living on borrowed time with that.

It is sad you wish to leave the lichess community instead of fix the real issue, which is your poor tech choices.

You forget that lichess is basically just one guy, doing a labor of love, getting vastly underpaid to work on this site for all of us.

At least come to the table with realistic expectations. There's real people on the other end here.

This is a very careless upgrade, seems lichess is only for the richest rich now. Guys like me who cannot afford newer things had to bid a good bye to lichess. Very disappointing, really i am. At 63, this was something i really enjoyed. The different variants of chess, i luved to play here. Now this upgrade has messed it up for me.
