I got robbed $2000 in Spain During Elllobregat Chess Tournament 2022 - Story

I am really sorry to hear about this as I live in Barcelona. Chess is a big thing in Catalonia, and we host important tournaments here.

This is very disturbing as it is not an isolated incident. I do hope that the Catalan Chess federation and tournament organizers get a hold on this, much can and must be done to improve!

If you consider getting back here let me know and I will try to provide some assistance. I am pretty sure the community will help.
As a 10-year-old I went to my first Junior World Championship in Oropesa del Mar, Spain almost two decades ago. I too was robbed at the airport - all my tournament photos, videos and even saved games were stolen right at airport (Madrid) which hurt the most. Of course, computers and cash...

They stole everything while the family was checking in - right at the airline counter. Absurd.

When confronting airport officials, they just shrugged it off and blamed us. They didn't want to do anything. Apparently, it's STILL very common, it heavily talked about in travel forums along with Paris, France scams.

Sorry to hear that @nikhildixit, for sure is a problem that somebody should address, specially police or politicians that not apply more several punishments to people that acts like this.

But puting an entire country and banning it considering that the rest of the people is similar, is something that makes no sense.

There are robberies and worst situations in the entire world, and that not means that all the people living in the same country acts equal.

Thank you for your kind words. These cases are not only limited to chess. If you open any travel forum, you will find hundreds of such cases. Maybe police authorities should take some serious action.
I think Vishy said that he built a lot of his career from residence in Spain which he had to do because it is far cheaper travelling from Spain to various tournaments in Europe.

Have things changed so much?
