Rematching?

I might be wrong but it seems like many players don't like to rematch, win or lose, any thoughts?
There can be various reason to don't accept rematch, like hating you opponent (it can appen) or maybe winning just because your opponent did a silly mistake and you eventually won, even though they were a better player than you. And by knowing that you don't engage in a new game where you will almost certainly lose.
Or maybe you simply want to challenge another person because you already know what are their tastes.
Or maybe he is much low rated than you.
or maybe [insert any motive you want].
there are a lot of reasons :)
I press the find new game button too quickly for the rematch to go though, just muscle memory at this point
I mean I just automatically assume the other person doesn't want to rematch, so I just press the new game button. However, I'll be honest and say that I do prefer "best of 1". I like to expose myself to different openings, playstyles, and ideas. Playing against the same person just seems like a waste of learning experience if I could simply play against someone else.
Generally for me, it's what EXOprimal said. I'm just so eager to get back into the pool or change time controls that I will often not see a rematch request. That or I have other obligations to attend to for work/family etc... Then there are times where I just don't feel like playing anymore. I don't think there is ever an obligation to continue unless it is a tournament or you agreed to a certain number of games with your opponent. Sometimes people bring up the whole "I want a chance to retaliate after a loss" argument, which is something I don't buy. They had their chance during the first game and obliging to a rematch to possibly heal a bruised ego isn't the right reason. I'd say the only reasons I would agree to one is if I had promised it, I had a genuinely good time during the first game, or I felt I could offer something of educational value.
I guess what I'm getting at is what HeatBombastic mentioned the "best of 1" is that really a good way to gauge your skill level? I know there are so many factors involved it just seems like the "best of 1" is very popular and somewhat frustrating at times. Maybe I'm just looking for more of a community than a competitor and I will be the first to admit that's on me.
I suppose it comes down to one's personal preferences and expectations. I have no expectation that someone will rematch if I find them in the seek function. The seek function is purpose-built to find a competitor. It also doesn't hurt to ask for a rematch explicitly later on. As was said earlier, sometimes it is just the rhythm of competition and they may have not meant to ignore the request. As for the 'best of 1' notion, I don't see it as such. The rating system is in place so that you can gauge an approximate strength over time. You may not be playing them again immediately, but you may be playing someone who played against them and had their rating affected one way or another. In my mind the only thing I have to prove to myself is that I can achieve incremental improvement against opponents that have achieved the same. If I think there is a chance that I could have beaten someone given a rematch, I trust that instinct. If I really want to test myself against someone specific, I'll ask them for a match.
Sometimes if you beat someone, offering a rematch seems like an insult to them Idk.
