In this case it is the fear that the opponent might cheat which likely influenced the OP's play in this game and several others. They are in good company, as the same fear befell Magnus Carlsen when he had to play against Hans Niemann in the Sinquefield Cup 2022. We all know what happened: Magnus played that game badly and lost, as a consequence he withdrew from the tournament and decided to block Niemann.
