Hi Lichess, I'm FM Xiao Cheng. Happy to answer questions for newer players

Happy to answer questions from newer players for chess (US Rating U1000 or equivalent) on
-learning and training
-play in tournaments
-my own chess experience
-anything else related to chess

Also curious about your chess experience:
1) How long have you played chess?
2) What is your favorite part of the game?
Best book to practice openings ?
1) 2 years
2) endings
What is the regimen for “learning and training”? As in how many minutes/hours to spend on this or that etc.?

@Kusokosla What questions do you have about learning and training in chess if you're just starting
Audience for newer players to chess. I think you're quite bit more advanced for this topic :)

Winning Chess Openings by Seirawan
It's a general book on opening principles, not specific lines

Training recommendation for openings
Pick your favorite for white (1.e4 or 1. d4) and black (against 1.e4 and 1.d4)
Play blitz games (unrated or against stockfish when you just want to practice openings)
After the game, check Opening Explore option on lichess and look thru what master's have played in the same line.
Play more rated blitz games afterward.

If you're still relatively new to chess (less than 10 in-person tournaments), learn basic opening principles and then focus MORE on
-Tactics and
-Endgames
Silman book is great!
