Suggestion: rematch aborted -> penalty

@Vempele cancel the rematch offer if you will join a tournament. If you wanted a new opponent and clicked rematch, cancel it. If you didn't get to it, abort (or better yet apologize and abort).

I don't know... that part with "through no fault of the player" is no entirely true. Even if you didn't mean to disrespect or waste someone's time, it's still your fault for misclicking.
I just want a game. If my opponent accepts the rematch, I'm happy with that. If I get paired, that's okay too. But it should be the server's job to ensure only one of these things happens (i.e. it should automatically cancel my challenges when I start a game).
I m not a big fan of that, maybe his phone rang ... maybe a customer walks in ... You can't tell and even if those situation didn't apply then they could apply next time. He might not know what a rematch is and clicked don't think too much about it and move on to another opponent :)
Like I said, intentional or not, a mistake should be punished. I never said to tar and feather anyone, just a slap on the wrist.

I get that there are hundred's of excuses valid and not so much, but still, if you disrespect someone and waste his/her time, than you need a little time wasted for you as well (I understand that rating penalties aren't the way to go).
I wish to weigh in.

I don't think this is a big issue, and I hate that people keep creating new threads about it. It's really not important, it's 2 seconds if they abort, 20 seconds if they don't join the game, of your time.
This is irrelevant in comparison to the time you spend playing here on lichess.

Please leave this issue alone and let the devs focus on bringing out interesting new features that upgrade the lichess experience, rather than having to focus on discipline and punishment.
What confuses me is when developers share opinions and sometimes players respond with some expectation that developers must refute their ideas/suggestions. xD

Often in forum topics when I stop commenting, it's because I don't mind losing an internet argument.

#14 I don't disagree, but I'm not a moderator so I avoid such decisions.
@RedFury it's not. It's trivial and not worth the developers time, nor the players' time to make a fuss about it.
@TheLAZYmd IMO = In My Opinion... I believe I am entitled to one, still ;)

Also, the developers took enough time to put in various warning messages that are distracting to some and welcomed by others. I know you can't please everyone and I never made an imperative request about it... it's just a suggestion which can or cannot be taken into consideration.
Sometimes a rematch is missed. Especially, when you are playing on phones/tablets. So should we lose the game? It is quite silly.

We can clearly see when an opponent leaves, so we can abort without wasting time.

Case in point, I challenged a couple of friends today. Both accepted and I had to close out the other window. Until and unless we have someone doing this maliciously, I guess abort is just one of those things which happen.
